Not all sectors of business are adversely affected by the current economic crisis. ICT remains a competitive area in the world, in which any candidate with a technological profile and proper training can find interesting and promising employment opportunities and successful careers. The ICT sector is changing dynamically and quickly towards an unpredictable future. In an unspoiled field open to creativity, innovation and new ways of working, interacting and learning, an ongoing and substantial offer of work is guaranteed.
According to the "Glow Future in ICTs - Opportunities for a New Generation of Women," published in February 2012 by the ITU, the Institute for the future (IFTF) identifies six key factors that can shape the future workforce: length of life; increasing smart devices and systems; advances in computing systems successfully
In fact, the impact of ICTs on the economy of a country can be measured by its GDP weight. As stated in 2011 by Fundación Orange in its annual report on the development of the Spain Information Society, the European average of 2.5% of GDP for IT and 3% for communication. The report also emphasizes that more developed countries invest heavily in ICTs while this situation is inverted in less economically-developed countries, even though many ICT companies are transferring some of their services to non-European countries.
In addition, this report highlights the unequal distribution of production in the various ICT sectors and categorizes countries into four groups or clusters. The first group consists of the leading countries (Germany, France, Britain and Italy), where ICT manufacturing is above the EU average. The second cluster includes the "followers" of ICT production in industry and services over the EU average, for example in Spain. However, these figures reflect a certain disproportion between sectors, resulting in an uneven level of ICT production.
A third group includes the countries we could call "balanced." Here the level of ICT production is more or less equal in industry and services to the EU average and industry and services values are similar. Finally, in the fourth group there are countries with lower averages, but without significant production differences between the various ICT industries.
A study by Adecco, in collaboration with Infoemploo, shows that 2012 is still a bad year for job creation, although the only sector that will continue to grow is the ICT sector. Indeed, I.T., which employs 5.5%, is the third largest sector of the economy in Spain. In addition to being the fastest-growing region in 2011, the report states that it is the best hope for 2012.
Despite this promising future, the Spanish work market is suffering from the paradox that its demands for employment are not being addressed because of a shortage of professionals, according to the report by the job center Ticjob.es called 'ICT Employment Observatory in Spain.' The lack of qualified professionals, according to this study, emphasizes the difference between labor supply and demand in this field. The report identifies four sources of supply-demand disparities: training, expertise, expertise and location. All these factors affect employment directly.
As regards training, this is because 60% of jobs require an ICT degree or higher level, although the number of university registrations has decreased by 40 percent since 2004. In addition, the figures indicate that this trend will continue. Some jobs are not occupied when speaking about expertise or specialization, because the requirements required by companies are too high and cannot be fulfilled by candidates.
Experience is another disadvantage as 34.5% of job offers require previous experience of three to five years and 33% require 5 to ten years experience, placing young graduates in a difficult situation. Another reason why some candidates are unwilling to move or even to travel regularly is because it is difficult to fill certain vacancies and limits the incorporation of certain types of work.
